You’re seen my landscape photography and love it.  Perhaps, you want to see me approach something else you’ve got in mind.  What do you do?  Well, you could send me a suggestion and wait for me to get around to it.  Or you could commission me to create a photo for you.  So, let’s dive a bit deeper into that second idea.

What is Commissioning a Photo?

When you commission a photo, you specifically hire me to create a photo for you.  Part of my job is to do my very best to recreate what you describe you want.  So, I work on achieving your vision of the final product.  I go where you want me to go and I stand about where you want me to stand (if you care).  The idea is that I come back from my photo shoot with a photo/photos which meet your needs.  You pay me to perform this service and provide this product.

If you need a good example, I’ve got one for you.  Every time you hire a portrait photographer for a portrait session of any kind, you’re commissioning a photo.  Also, if you hire a wedding photographer, you’re commissioning several photos.  You’re not buying a ready-made photo.  You’re asking the photographer to create 1 or more which you envision.  That’s what commissioning a photo is all about.

Who Can Commission a Photo?

Well, I pretty much answered that question in the last segment.  However, you may require more specifics.  So here goes.

Anyone can commission a photo.  Yep.  That’s right.  Anyone can commission a photo.  I accept commissions from individuals and businesses alike.  If you have a photography vision which you feel I can fulfill, hire me to fulfill it.  I’ll do my very best to meet your needs.

As long as you have an acceptable budget and meet certain other requirements I have, I’ll take a look at your commission.  I find commissioned work interesting and a great source of creativity from time to time.

In short, you (yes, YOU) can commission a photo.  I welcome the opportunity and look forward to collaborating with you.

What Kinds of Commissions Will You Accept?

Ah.  Here we are.  This is an important question.  What kinds of commissions will I, as a photographer, accept?

First of all, I accept landscape and nature photography commissions.  Sorry if you were hoping I’d cover your wedding (or other event) or do a family portrait for you.  Every photographer has his or her specialty.  Neither of those are mine.

Another point to consider is I will reject wild animal commissions.  I have terrible luck with animal photography.  I cannot guarantee anything there.  I’d much rather sell you a wild animal photo I’ve already taken.  Yes, this includes animals at the zoo as well.

no wild animal photographs
no wild bird photographs

I’ll happily accept agricultural commissions.  I prefer to exclude humans from my photos but I can incorporate them if necessary.  So, if you’ve got something landscape or nature photography orientated, I’ll happily look at your commission.

Can I See Some Examples of Commissions You’ve Fulfilled?

Absolutely.  I want you to know what kind of quality to expect from me as a landscape and nature photographer.  So, here are a few examples.  Click or tap on them for a larger view.
