Can Photos Replace Artwork in My House?

  • 3 mins read

I know a lot of people are wondering about this.  Can photos take the place of artwork in a home or office setting?  It seems like a logical question to ask.  So, today we’re addressing that very question.  Can photos replace artwork in your home?  The answer might surprise you so keep reading.

So, the overall and general answer to this question is a resounding ‘yes.’  However, I must qualify that answer with removing certain kinds of artwork out of the equation.  I must remove things like jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, and other mediums such as those.  While I know that you can easily add photos to some of those mediums, it’s not the same thing.  You can’t add photos to other mediums such as those.

The Example

If you want to see an example of where photos can replace artwork on the wall, then check out this slider below.

As you can see in the example, photos replace artwork on the wall just fine.  I show you the exact same room with a piece of abstract art and then with a fine art landscape photo on the wall.  While the mountain scene changes the feel of the room from the abstract, both pieces of art work well in the room.

Some Reasons to Use Photos Instead of Artwork

Now, perhaps, you’re thinking about whether or not you should replace your artwork with photos.  The answer is: it’s totally up to you.  However, you might consider the following reasons.

  • Photos aren’t unique. This means that you can replace them should something unfortunate happen. Even signed limited-edition prints are replaceable.
  • While paintings, and the like, resemble places you’ve been or want to see, only a photo shows you what it’s really like.
  • Thanks to mats, photos allow you to choose the size of print and frame you want. You can choose a standard size frame or a custom frame as you wish.

If you plan to replace artwork with photos, then you might want to consider a few points.  I list them below.
