Breaking New Ground in Landscape Photography

Edit Template

Recently, I capitalized on an opportunity presented to me.  I took a trip out to Nevada and Lake Tahoe.  This was breaking new ground in landscape photography for me.  I really haven’t ventured into Nevada in my photography efforts.  It was refreshing to try out something new and see some different scenes from the usual red rocks.  So, let’s check out my trip.

Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place.  There’s a good reason why it’s such a popular tourist destination in both California and Nevada.  If you want to go visit, there’s plenty of places on either side of the state line which will accommodate you.

My experience was a bit of a downer.  I took a scouting trip and eliminated several possibilities which I researched out online.  In fact, I found an entirely previously unknown viewpoint which I ended up using.  I took this picture that day at sunset.  Sadly, the wind was blowing HARD.  I couldn’t capture a photo without the trees blurring in frame.  I was SUPER lucky that this single shot worked out for me.  Otherwise, this scouting shoot would have been a bust.

I intended to keep trying for a sunrise shot for much smoother water.  That’s when things fell apart for me.  It rained most of the days I was there.  This ruled out any subsequent potential photo shoots.  It was a bummer, but I cannot control the weather.  At least I know of a good place to return in the future.  However, it means that I don’t have anything else from Lake Tahoe to show off at this time.

Instead, the weather was a bit more cooperative later on and closer to Reno.  While checking out lots of different tourist sites in the area, I found a scenic turnout which affords an excellent view of the distant city of Reno.  The moody and stormy skies allowed me to photograph the scene and come back with these examples.

Again, I’m breaking new ground here.  I don’t usually do cityscapes.  But I’m glad I brought my camera along and stopped at this turnout.

I hope that I can return at some point in the near-ish future to make a proper attempt at Lake Tahoe and come back with something much more satisfactory in the way of landscape photos.  Time will tell.

So, what do you think of these new photos?  Do you agree on me breaking new ground in landscape photography?  Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
