This time of year has a lot of beautiful fall color appears on trees. I do love pulling out my camera and seeking out landscape photos displaying all that beauty. Finding a great place to capture such can be really easy. I took the time to do just this a few days ago.
I decided to try out the fall leaf colors at Zion’s National Park. However, thanks to some of the policies in the main portion of the park, I decided to go for Kolob Canyon instead. It’s a great portion of the park and there’s plenty of color to be seen there during the right time of year.
I wanted to check out some of the hiking trails there. There are a handful of hiking trails which go up several of the finger canyons in that portion of the park. You can check out some beautiful scenery all along the way. There is a single hiking trail which will connect in with the main portion of the park if you are willing to hike several miles to get there.
It was a beautiful autumn afternoon for a hike. I chose my trail and brought my camera along for photo opportunities. It was a very pleasant hike with only a few other people out there so it was also very quiet. There’s nothing like getting back to nature when you’ve been working hard or stuck inside for too long. It was refreshing.
This particular hike wandered alongside a stream up into one of the finger canyons. However, given the time until sunset, I didn’t go the full distance because I wanted to go up to the view point and catch the setting sun on the mountain peaks.
It turned into a rather spectacular sunset that evening except that it was in the wrong direction. The mountain peaks were facing west rather than in the west. That meant that the best of the skies wouldn’t be in any interesting landscape photos that night. There was still some interesting color to be had if I faced the right direction. I could even manage to catch the dramatic skies in with parts of the landscape.
It was a good day for landscape photography and also a great location. Timing and location are an essential part of the perfect landscape photograph. I was very happy to have both that day. So, I hope you enjoy my photos of fall color.
