Times are tough lately. Everyone’s wallet is hurting. People are cutting back on luxuries liked find art across the board. But you still need something to decorate your walls with. So, how to you make this happen? The answer is to seek out statement art on a budget. Now, how do you do that? We’ll discuss a few ways to accomplish your decorating goals with minimal monetary investment.
When the national or international economy is down, or even just your personal economy, there are a few options for you to make your dream home or office happen. They require some alternative thought processes, but they are viable. So, let’s dive into it.
1. Buy Prints Not Originals
Artists create all kinds of different art, often in different sizes. Sometimes they create prints so that more than 1 person can enjoy the same piece of art. Prints cost much less than the original does. The smaller the print, the lower the price, obviously.
If money is an issue, then you should look at the print side of things. You can acquire a beautiful version of the art you love at a reduced price. You can also buy a print which will meet your size needs. It doesn’t matter what size the original is, there are often large and small prints available. However, avoid buying limited edition prints as they often have higher price tags. Overall, this method of selection will satisfy your statement art on a budget requirements.
2. Buy Smaller Art
I’m an artist myself (I’m a photographer). My bias is that I want you to buy the biggest most expensive piece I can sell you. However, I’m aware that this isn’t an option for everyone. I would rather sell you a smaller photo print than not sell you anything because you can’t afford to buy a large format framed print. Lots of other artists feel similarly.
I know that this option won’t work for huge walls and statement art. Still it will work well as statement art on a budget for smaller and more intimate areas of your home or office.
3. Choose an Unknown Artist Not a Known Name
Artists dream of becoming a known name and quantity. This means that they will sell more art and can charge more for said art. That price tag is the reason why you should reconsider known names in art. Most artists will never rise to the level of fame which Michealangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Vincent Van Gogh still currently enjoy posthumously. Still, those with an international, national, or even local name can charge more than others often can for quality art.
If you want to find statement art in a budget, your best bet is to avoid those artists with a reputation like that. There are plenty of other artists without such a name and reputation who create just as quality art. Buying from them will net you the art you want and also the gratitude of the artist wanting to share their art with the world. That’s a win-win in my book.
4. Shop for Cheaper Alternatives
This particular option requires more effort from you as an art patron. You must take a step back from falling in love with a particular piece of art and figure out why you love it. There are plenty of other artists who create similar art. You can find someone else who made something which will appeal to you in the same way. However, you must search for it. The internet can help but can only go so far. You must cultivate other sources to find what you want.
Cheaper alternatives don’t just include locating artists selling their art for a smaller price tag. It also includes shopping for cheaper pieces which the same artist offers. You may succeed or you may fail at that task. Some artists don’t offer cheaper pieces (especially photographers and digital artists). Still, there are cheaper alternatives to locate your statement art on a budget if you put out the effort.
5. Shop Second-Hand
There are plenty of options out there for second-hand goods. You can shop at thrift stores, yard/garage/estate sales, Ebay, and more. There you may locate all kinds of interesting things for sale. Most of the time, these items for sale aren’t new. They are sold very much on an as-is basis. This does include second-hand art.
When people move, die, or move on in life, they often (or completely) don’t need their art anymore for all kinds of reasons. They (or their heirs) must dispose of it as they see fit. This gives you the opportunity to buy high quality art at rock bottom prices. This will take time and sifting, but you can acquire statement art on a budget through this method. However, as stated before, the art is as-is. Also, it’s probably essentially one-of-a-kind in that, while there might be other pieces created, the other pieces aren’t available for sale or for sale at that low price.
6. Home-Made Art
This particular option is a bit complex. It more-or-less only works for current artists. However, if you want a way to find statement art on a budget, then 1 viable option is for you to make it yourself. The way this becomes complicated is that learning the proper techniques and acquiring the proper materials can be more expensive and time-consuming that simply buying it. However, who will know what kind of art you love more than you? If you have the skills and resources, you can create the perfect statement art for you.
If you are indeed an artist yourself, then you know that making your own art requires a sizable investment in money and time. However, once you are over that hump, creating your own art is surprisingly cheap. After all, you already have everything you need at hand. It almost becomes trivial to make your own statement art on a budget.
Conclusion
In conclusion, you can find statement art on a budget for your home or office. However, you must be willing to pursue alternative paths and options. If you do so, then you will find yourself rewarded with beautiful statement art to adorn your home or office while staying within your budget.
Now I turn things over to you. What do you think of these methods of acquiring statement art on a budget which I presented? Has 1 or more worked for you in the past? Is there another which I missed? Please leave your thoughts and experiences in the comments section below.
